The Nationals have agreed to a minor league contract with outfielder Rick Ankiel. Washington announced the deal on Monday. If added to the 40-man roster, Ankiel would have a $1.25 million, one-year contract and could make $1.5 million in performance bonuses. The performance bonuses are the same as his deal last year with the Nationals, plus an additional $250,000 for 400 plate appearances.
Right-hander Alfredo Aceves and the Boston Red Sox have agreed to a $1.2 million, one-year contract that avoided salary arbitration. The agreement was $75,000 below the midpoint between the $1.6 million he had asked for in arbitration last month and the $950,000 he had been offered. Left-handed reliever Joe Beimel and first baseman-outfielder Conor Jackson have agreed to minor league contracts with the Texas Rangers. Beimel went 1-1 with a 5.33 ERA in 35 games with Pittsburgh last year. Jackson hit .244 with five home runs and 43 RBIs in 114 games last season with Oakland and Boston, which acquired him at the trade deadline.
